چکیده

This paper looks into the communications capabilities that are required by distributed multimedia applications to achieve relation preserving information exchange. These capabilities are derived by analyzing the notion of 'information exchange' and are embodied in communications functionalities. To emphasize the importance of the users' view, a top-down approach is applied. The (revised) OSI Application Layer Structure (OSI-ALS) is used to model the communications functionalities and to develop an architecture for composition of multimedia services with these functionalities. This work may therefore be considered an exercise to evaluate the suitability of OSI-ALS for compesition of multimedia teleservices.

A CMIS-capable Scripting Language and Associated Lightweight Protocol for TMN Applications

Over the last couple of years, the Telecommunication Management Network (TMN) finally seems to be coming of age. The underlying OSI Management framework (X.700) has been almost completed while a number of TMN platform products in the market have reached a level of maturity, blending naturally the object-oriented aspects of the TMN information architecture with object-oriented methodologies and ...

MACSE: A generic connection establishment protocol for multimedia communication residing at the OSI application layer

The multiple association control service element (MACSE) described in this work is a new connection establishment protocol for the application layer of the OSI reference model (OSIRM). The objective of the protocol is efficient establishment and control of multimedia associations among multiple spatially dispersed users. MACSE defines a new OSI service to support the communication requirements ...

Secured access to terminals and teleservices using biometrics verification

This paper presents a typical application of secured access to a terminal and/or teleservices using biometrics (speech and frontal face) verification. This application is one of the prototype developed in the European ACTS project « M2VTS » which stands for Multi Modal Verification for Teleservices and Security Applications. The primary goal of this project was to address the issue of secured a...
